Last seen at home
Margaret Haddican-McEnroe was last seen at her residence in Warren Township, New Jersey, on October 10, 2006. She was 29 years old. She was never seen again.
Per the Charley Project’s account, her husband left the residence on an errand around 1:30 p.m.; when he returned two hours later, his wife was gone and the couple’s infant was home alone. He did not report her missing for two days. She left behind her vehicle and her cell phone; her husband stated that $11,000 in cash disappeared at the same time she did.
The details of that day are what the FBI chose to put before the public twenty years later: a black “BDU” jacket, a gray “Army” sweatshirt with black lettering, white checkered pajama pants, white socks, white Nike sneakers. A silver chain with dog tags. A white wedding ring with three diamonds. Several tattoos on her stomach and back, and a firefighter’s helmet tattooed on her calf. She may have been carrying a black bag with additional clothing in it.
A woman dressed for leaving — or for a day that never ended the way she planned. Twenty years, and the distinction has never been resolved.
The 2026 appeal
On August 4, 2026, the FBI’s Newark field office did something it doesn’t do for every cold case: it issued a fresh public appeal, twenty years on, with a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in her disappearance.
The language of the reward matters. “Those involved in the disappearance” — the FBI is treating this as a case with someone to arrest, not merely a woman who walked away. After two decades, the Bureau put Margaret Haddican-McEnroe’s face, her tattoos, her dog tags, and her wedding ring back in front of the public and asked for help.
This is not the first federal attention the case has drawn. In June 2011, when the FBI joined the investigation, Margaret’s husband Tim McEnroe — who reported her missing on October 12, 2006 — was publicly named a “person of interest.” He has never been charged, and the presumption of innocence stands.
Theories: what might have happened
Twenty years, no public account of that day beyond the clothing she wore.
Foul play. The FBI’s framing — a reward for the arrest and conviction of “those involved” — is the strongest public signal of what investigators believe. Someone, in their assessment, is responsible for Margaret’s disappearance. But no one has been named, no one has been charged, and the presumption of innocence stands for everyone in her orbit.
She left voluntarily. The black bag with additional clothing is the detail that keeps this theory alive: it reads like packing. But twenty years without a word — without using her name, without contacting anyone — and an FBI treating the case as a potential crime argue powerfully against it.

Corrections (Oct 2026): Age at disappearance corrected from 48 to 29 (born August 25, 1977 — FBI wanted poster; Charley Project; CUE Center; MyCentralJersey). The earlier “48” repeated the FBI’s August 2026 press-release figure, which was her current age at the time of the release, not her age in 2006; “would be 68” corrected to “turned 49 in August 2026”; header meta_description corrected. Added the June 2011 person-of-interest designation for husband Tim McEnroe (FBI archives) and corrected the FAQ to reflect it. Added timeline detail: last seen ~1:30 p.m., infant left home alone, reported missing after two days, $11,000 cash missing (Charley Project; CUE Center).
