The concert she never left for
On May 25, 2018, 51-year-old Kristyn “Krash” Richerson was at her home in Muskogee, Oklahoma, getting ready to go to Rocklahoma — the big rock concert in Pryor. She was last seen wearing a tan or beige shirt and camo pants, a bandana around her head.
Phone records indicate she never left Muskogee.
She was reported missing on July 6, 2018. What police found when they started digging into her life pointed at the people closest to her: her roommates, Carl Bryce and Cody Campbell. Bryce had used one of Kristyn’s financial cards after she disappeared — including a transaction on her Oklahoma Access card. Both men were found selling or giving away Kristyn’s belongings.
Both were held as material witnesses. No charges in her disappearance were ever brought against either of them. Both men are presumed innocent of any crime in connection with Kristyn’s disappearance unless proven otherwise.
The backyard
During the investigation, Cody Campbell told authorities that Bryce had stabbed Kristyn and buried her in the backyard. Police searched. They found a pile of recently disturbed dirt — and the scent of decomposition.
Kristyn was not found.
The same day authorities searched the house, first-degree murder charges were filed against a “John Doe” for the murder of Kristyn Richerson. The identity of the John Doe suspect has never been made public. On November 25, 2019, police executed another search warrant on a county property, giving little detail. In May 2020 — two years in — the Muskogee Phoenix reported there were still no leads. Bryce and Campbell were later charged only in connection with a stolen truck found at the residence.
Kristyn’s body has never been found. The case remains an active investigation by the Muskogee Police Department.
Who Krash was
Kristyn Sue Richerson was 51, Caucasian and Cherokee, a woman her loved ones called Krash. She wore reading glasses. She had a scar on the back of her right leg and an eight-to-ten-inch tattoo of Stevie Nicks on her right calf. Her family and friends kept her case alive through a “Bring Home Krash” Facebook campaign, and her story became part of the national reckoning over missing and murdered Indigenous women — covered by the Murder Shelf Book Club podcast’s “Finding Kristyn Richerson” episodes in 2020, Missing Indigenous Monday, and, in 2026, the City Towner retrospective that called her case “emotionally unfinished.”
The BIA’s Missing and Murdered Unit lists her case among its MMIP files.
Theories: what might have happened
Killed by someone in her home. The roommates’ behavior — using her cards, disposing of her belongings — and Campbell’s statement about a stabbing and a backyard burial form the core of the case. The disturbed dirt and decomposition scent corroborate that something happened in that yard. But no body, no forensic confirmation, and no charges against any named person. A John Doe murder charge with a sealed identity is not a resolution.
The body was moved. If Kristyn was buried in the backyard, someone may have moved her after police attention began — the search came nearly two months after she vanished. The 2019 search of a county property suggests investigators were following exactly that possibility.
She left voluntarily. Phone records say she never left Muskogee. Her cards were used by someone else. Her belongings were sold off. Nothing supports a voluntary departure.
