A phone call that ended mid-conversation
Jamyla Norwood, 13, was declared critically missing by the Milwaukee Police Department on July 28, 2025. She last spoke to her family at about 3:30 p.m. that day, near N. 24th Street and W. Burleigh Street in Milwaukee. She has not been heard from since.
According to her mother, as reported by FOX6 Milwaukee, the last phone call ended abruptly. The mother told police that while she was speaking with Jamyla, she heard a girl in the background threaten to beat Jamyla up and push her down the stairs. The phone then disconnected, and the mother said she did not speak to Jamyla again. That account is the mother’s, reported by FOX6; no official source has publicly described what happened after the call ended.
The text messages — unverified claims
Two days later, the case took a disturbing turn. Jamyla’s mother told police that around July 30, 2025, she received text messages from multiple unknown numbers claiming that Jamyla was dead, according to FOX6. These messages are unverified claims: they were reported by her mother, their source is unknown, and no law-enforcement agency has confirmed their content or said that Jamyla is deceased. They are recorded here because they are part of the documented public record of the case — and because anyone who sent them, or who knows who did, holds information investigators need. They are not evidence of what happened to Jamyla.
Who Jamyla is, and the search for her
Milwaukee police described Jamyla as a Black female, 5’3″ tall and weighing approximately 120 pounds. When she was last seen she was wearing a pink bonnet, a black T-shirt, blue jeans and distinctive yellow-and-black shoes. Her mother said Jamyla had no money and no transportation, and police believed she was on foot — which made the area around 24th and Burleigh, on Milwaukee’s north side, the immediate focus for anyone who might have seen her that afternoon.
FOX6 reported that July 2025 was not the first time Jamyla had been reported missing: her family had reported her missing in October 2024, and she was again classified as critically missing on February 10, 2025, before being reunited with her family a short time later. Those earlier episodes ended with her home. This one has not: after July 28, 2025, no confirmed sighting of Jamyla was reported by police or local news, and coverage of her case — a FOX6 report, a CafeMom report on July 30, 2025, and a public post by WISN 12 anchor Blake Eason asking for her whereabouts — was not followed by any report that she had been located.
What is not known
Almost everything after 3:30 p.m. on July 28, 2025, is unknown. Police have not publicly said where Jamyla went after the phone call disconnected, who the girl heard in the background of the call was, or who sent the text messages her mother reported receiving two days later. The claims in those messages have never been verified. No suspect, person of interest or confirmed sighting has been announced by Milwaukee police in the public record. We report what officials and her family have said, attributed as such, and do not speculate about what happened to her.
