Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 1, 2026. Last updated: October 1, 2026.

Still Missing is an independent editorial publication. We collect the minimum data needed to run this site, and we never sell your personal information. This policy explains what data is collected, how advertising on this site works, and what control you have over your information.

1. Information we collect

We do not run accounts, profiles, or user tracking systems. The only personal information we handle is what you choose to give us directly:

  • Newsletter: if you subscribe to case updates, we collect your email address solely to send those updates. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email.
  • Contact messages: if you write to us about a correction or a case suggestion, we receive your name, email address, and message content. We use it only to respond.
  • Basic server logs: our web host may automatically log technical details such as your IP address, browser type, and which pages you visit. We use this only to keep the site working and secure.

2. Advertising and cookies

Still Missing may display advertising served by third-party advertising vendors, including Google AdSense and/or Mediavine.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve advertising to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. Learn more in Google’s explanation of how partners use its data.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, by visiting aboutads.info, or by adjusting your device’s advertising settings.
  • Advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies (such as web beacons or device identifiers) to measure ad performance and to detect fraud. We do not control these technologies; each vendor’s policy governs their use.

You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Doing so will not affect your ability to read this site, though personalized advertising may become less relevant.

3. How we use information

Any personal information described above is used only to operate the publication: sending the newsletter you requested, responding to your messages, keeping the site secure, and understanding which pages readers find useful. We do not build profiles, score behavior, or sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties.

4. Sharing of information

We share information only when necessary and only in these limited cases:

  • With service providers that help us run the site (for example, web hosting and email delivery), who may access data only as needed to provide that service.
  • With advertising partners as described in Section 2, governed by their own privacy policies.
  • If required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of any person.

5. Children

This site documents real missing-persons cases, including cases involving children, as news and public-awareness content. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

6. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (for example, California residents under the CCPA/CPRA, or visitors in the EEA/UK under the GDPR), you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, or to opt out of its sale or sharing. To make such a request, email us using the address below. We will respond within a reasonable time and will never discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

7. Data security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information in our control. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. External links

This site links to sources and resources outside our control (for example, NamUs, NCMEC, news outlets, and law-enforcement sites). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves; the “last updated” date above will always reflect the current version. Material changes will be noted on this page.
