The husband whose story kept changing
Angela Green was 51 years old, a mother, living in Prairie Village, Kansas — the kind of suburb where nothing happens. In June 2019, she was last seen at her home.
And then she was gone.
What happened next is what true-crime podcasts are made of: her husband’s account of the events around her disappearance changed — reportedly, dramatically and repeatedly. Yet he was never named an official suspect, and Angela’s case remains unsolved more than seven years later.
Her daughter Ellie and her niece Michelle Guo refused to let the case fade. Neither did Steve Ridge, the Iowa-based private investigator who took the case pro bono and has worked it for four to five years, spending his own time and money chasing a trail the police couldn’t — or wouldn’t — follow.
The $100,000 reward and the documentary
In February 2026, Ridge doubled his personal reward for information leading to Angela’s location to $100,000 — timing the announcement to the February 23 premiere of “Looking for Angela,” an episode of the Discovery+ ID series People Magazine Investigates built around her case, featuring interviews with Ellie and Michelle.
“This past Saturday night, I had a lengthy conversation with somebody in Kansas City who had a lot to share with me on this case, a lot of insight,” Ridge told KCTV5 in March 2026. “And when you score one of those conversations, it recharges your battery for weeks.”
Ridge said the caller had information about people close to the “nucleus” of the disappearance — people he said had never been contacted by police or anyone else. He declined to be specific, saying he was protecting the source while he developed the information. “I am just going to work my way through it and see where I can take it,” he said.
There was a catch: Prairie Village police said they had no idea what he was talking about. The department welcomed the attention but said the claimed breakthrough had produced no new leads on their end — “no new leads so far.”
That tension — a family’s private investigator insisting the case is crackable, and police saying there’s nothing new — is where Angela Green’s case sits in 2026: very much alive, and no closer to an answer.
Theories: what might have happened
Foul play by someone close to her. The changed stories, the missing wife, the investigator’s conviction that people “close to the nucleus” know more than they’ve said — this is where the case points. What supports it: a 51-year-old woman doesn’t vanish from her own home without a trace by accident, and inconsistent accounts from a spouse are the reddest of flags. What constrains it: no suspect has been named, no charges filed, no body found — and Ridge’s claimed lead remains unverified by law enforcement. The presumption of innocence applies to everyone involved.
Voluntary departure. Nothing supports it. Seven years, no contact with her daughter, no financial footprint, no sightings — and a $100,000 reward that hasn’t produced her.
